Prue Acton

Prue Acton is a Australian fashion designer often referred to as Australia's 'golden girl of fashion' during the 60's. She was born in Benalla, Victoria in 1943 and completed a diploma of art majoring in textiles at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

In 1963 she established her own fashion design business in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. By the age of 21 Acton was turning over 350 designs a year and selling on average 1000 dresses each week, through 80 outlets in both Australia and New Zealand.

The following garments she has produced have strong connections to the puritan clothing of the 17th century.

The next garments show a subtle influence from the cavaliers, especially the second ensemble that displays many of the key features in regards to shapes; the fitted jacket, slightly loose sleeves with lace cuffs, large lace collar and pleated trousers.
